We have attempted to eat as much regional cuisine as possible on our journey through the Yucatan. On our first night we had success, which I shared in my second post, Valladolid.
Here are some of the dishes we had, most are of Antojitos, which means appetizers.
| Cafeteria style restaurante in Piste, just outside of Chichen Itza |
| Papazdules, hard boiled eggs in corn tortilla covered in a pumpkinseed creme sauce |
| 2 cheese, and 2 pork Empanadas |
| fancy schmancy menu |
| This was a stew of Turkey, Dutch cheese, capers, pinto beans and raisins, yes it was horrible |
| Turkey in Black sauce, well, if the Zombies really invade, this is what they will look and possibly taste like, H.O.R.R.I.B.L.E. Where is the McDonalds drive through when you really need it??? |
| Panuchos, my personal favorite so far |
| Codzutes, Corn tortillas filled with shredded chicken, fried covered with Yucatan tomato sauce and sprinkled with Gouda cheese, I have no idea why they like the Gouda, but personally I am thankful |
| Yucatan Sausage, first bite is tasty, dry and a sharp taste. Casing is tough and the more you eat it is richer and richer and you just can't eat anymore. A bit like a dry pepperoni stick. |
| Tacos especial! pork, bacon, cheese and green peppers in a corn tortilla. I liked it, Adrian was not a fan... |
Overall the Yucatan food is much different to the food we had in Oaxaca. I personally find Oaxacan food to be very very good, the Yucatan, some of it is very particularly flavored, might be an acquired taste....
